AC Repair & Service in Baltimore, MD

Same-visit AC repair with root-cause diagnosis and flat-rate pricing — restoring the efficiency your system has lost.

AC Repair Across the Greater Baltimore Metro

When cooling fails in a Maryland July, the useful question is not "how fast can someone get here" but "will they find the actual cause." A large share of repeat AC failures we are called to are second visits — the first contractor replaced a part that was a symptom rather than the problem. Green Comfort Systems diagnoses before quoting, shows you the readings, and puts the findings in writing.

We repair every major brand across Baltimore City and Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford, and Howard counties, with flat-rate pricing quoted before work starts and no hourly meter running while we diagnose. Request service or call and we will match a technician to the symptom.

What the symptoms usually mean

Warm air from the vents

Air moving but not cooling points to the refrigeration circuit or the outdoor unit: low charge from a leak, a failed compressor or capacitor, a contactor that is not pulling in, or a condenser coil so fouled it cannot reject heat. It can also be a thermostat calling for the wrong mode — worth ruling out before anyone opens a panel.

The system runs constantly but never satisfies

Continuous running with poor result usually means the system cannot deliver its capacity. Common causes are a restricted filter, a dirty evaporator coil, duct leakage in an unconditioned attic, or a system that was undersized for the load in the first place. On the hottest afternoons some runtime is normal; never reaching setpoint is not.

Short cycling

Starting and stopping every few minutes is hard on the compressor and terrible for humidity control. It commonly indicates an oversized system, a refrigerant charge problem, a failing control, or airflow so restricted the unit trips a safety.

Ice on the refrigerant line or coil

Ice means the coil is running below freezing, almost always from low airflow or low refrigerant charge. Turn the system off and let it thaw — running it iced can damage the compressor. This one is worth a call rather than a wait.

Water around the indoor unit

A blocked condensate drain or failed pump backs water into the pan and eventually into the house. Many systems have a float switch that shuts the unit down deliberately to prevent that, so "the AC stopped and there is water" is often one problem, not two.

New noises or odours

Grinding and squealing point to motor bearings; a hard electrical hum with no start often means a capacitor. A persistent musty smell usually means moisture in the duct or on the coil rather than a mechanical fault, and points toward duct cleaning and sealing.

What we do on a repair call

We start with what changed and when, then check the whole system rather than the loudest symptom: thermostat operation and configuration, filter and airflow, the indoor coil and drain, the electrical side, and refrigerant pressures and temperatures at the condenser. Measurement is what separates a component failure from a design problem, and the two have very different costs.

You get the findings in plain language and a flat-rate quote before work begins. If a repair holds up, we quote the repair — repairing is worth less to us than replacing, which is exactly why we say so out loud. Where the real issue is capacity, distribution, or a system that was never right, replacing the equipment alone reproduces the complaint, and we will tell you that too.

Local conditions that drive AC failures here

Baltimore-metro summers combine heat with high latent load, so equipment runs long and hard and humidity problems masquerade as temperature problems. Attic duct in the newer subdivisions loses capacity where nobody sees it. Older city and inner-suburb homes often pair a modern condenser with a duct system designed for heating only. Near the water — Middle River, Essex, Joppatowne, the Magothy and Severn shorelines, the Pasadena peninsula — brackish air corrodes coils, cabinets, and electrical connections faster than the same equipment ages inland.

When repair stops being the right answer

Some findings end the conversation: a failed compressor on a system old enough to use R-22, which is no longer produced; repeated electrical failures; or a pattern of two significant repairs inside twenty-four months. Our repair-or-replace framework lays out the arithmetic, including the costs a repair quote never shows — efficiency decay, the risk of the next failure, and forfeited rebate eligibility.

If replacement is genuinely the better value, you get the comparison — operating cost, comfort, warranty, and rebates — before you decide, not after. See AC installation and replacement.

Preventing the next one

Most emergency AC calls trace back to something a seasonal visit would have caught: a weak capacitor, a fouled coil, a drain starting to block, a charge drifting low. AC tune-up and maintenance addresses those before the hot week, and the Green Guardian Club exists to keep you off the emergency schedule entirely.
