Sump Pump Repair & Replacement

Sump pump testing, repair, and replacement for basements across the Baltimore metro, including backup options.

When people call us about sump pump repair & replacement

  • A pump that runs constantly, or cycles far more than it used to
  • One that does not start when the pit fills
  • A float that sticks
  • A discharge line that freezes or backs water up
  • Water on the basement floor despite a pump that appears to work

How we handle it

  • Test the pump by filling the pit, not by listening to it run dry.
  • Check the float, switch, and check valve, which is where most failures actually are.
  • Look at discharge routing, since a good pump with bad discharge still floods a basement.
  • Be straight about whether a battery backup is worth it for your basement specifically.

What we check before quoting

  • Float and switch operation under a real fill
  • Check valve condition and orientation
  • Discharge routing, slope, and freeze exposure
  • Pit size and whether the pump is matched to the water it has to move

Sump Pump Repair & Replacement FAQs

How often should a sump pump be tested?

At least annually, and before the wet season. Fill the pit until the float lifts and confirm the pump both starts and actually moves water out of the discharge. A pump that hums without discharging has failed, even though it sounds alive.

Do I need a battery backup?

It depends on how much water your pit actually takes and what is downstairs. Heavy storms and power cuts arrive together more often than people expect, and a backup matters most where a basement is finished or where the pump runs frequently. Where it genuinely would not earn its keep, we will say so.

Why does my pump run all the time?

Either it is genuinely moving a lot of groundwater, or it is short-cycling — a stuck float, a failed check valve letting discharged water run back in, or a pit that is too small. The second group is a repair; the first is a drainage question.
