Humid summers mean long cooling runtimes with heavy moisture load. Winter brings
freeze-thaw cycling that stresses outdoor components. A spring visit and an autumn visit
address genuinely different failure modes, which is why one annual visit leaves half the
system unchecked — and why two is the honest recommendation here rather than a
sales convention.
The spring visit verifies refrigerant charge against manufacturer targets, measures
static pressure and airflow, tests capacitors against rated values before they fail on
the hottest day, cleans the condenser coil, and clears the condensate drain.
The autumn visit on combustion equipment has a genuine safety component: heat-exchanger
inspection, combustion analysis, and venting checked for blockage and draft. On heat
pumps it verifies defrost behaviour and — most valuable of all — the balance
point and auxiliary heat staging, which is where most surprising winter electric bills
actually originate.
